Maine's Curriculum Framework for Mathematics & Science ![]()
Maine's Curriculum Framework for Mathematics and Science is one component of a Statewide Systemic Initiative to reform mathematics and science education in Maine. That initiative, "Maine: A Community of Discovery," is being overseen by the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (MMSA).
MMSA is a not-for-profit organization whose members include policy makers, faculty working at all levels of schooling, school administrators, students, business leaders, community members, scientists, and mathematicians from across the state. MMSA's goal is to facilitate major changes in educational opportunities, performance and aspirations in mathematics and science for all Maine students. MMSA envisions that all students will learn the scientific and mathematical content, processes and skills essential for making sound choices about continued education, gainful employment, and positive human associations.
Development of Maine's Curriculum Framework has been funded by the Eisenhower National Program for Mathematics and Science (U.S. Department of Education) through a three-year grant to the Maine Department of Education and the University of Southern Maine. This project could not have been accomplished without the full partnership of the Maine Department of Education, the University of Southern Maine and the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance.
