| : Description: How are a bottle of water, lump of coal, subway ticket, and a wind-up toy connected to energy? Take a quick look around from where you are sitting – how is energy involved with the objects and processes you see? Incredibly, energy is in some way connected to all physical objects and processes in the universe. Many people around Maine and the world are examining how to people can use energy in the most effective, efficient, and safe ways as possible.
Teachers in Grades 7 and 8 are invited to join MMSA staff for a one-day workshop to experience the lessons in the Energy for Maine (EFM) curriculum. The EFM module contains lessons on energy use, forms of energy, energy transfers and transformations, renewable and nonrenewable energy sources, efficiency, and conservation. Teachers may preview the lessons at the curriculum’s companion website www.powersleuth.org. At this workshop, participants will receive a copy of the EFM curriculum, a $100 materials voucher to purchase the hands-on supplies teachers need to carry out the curriculum, and schools will be reimbursed for their substitutes. Lunch is included.
